Under new coach Mike Budenholzer, the Bucks began the season with seven consecutive victories and went 25–10 before the New Year. He averaged almost 27 points during the season, earning his second straight All-Star nomination and All-NBA selection, and broke Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s franchise record for triple-doubles. The Bucks went on to lose Game 6 three days later despite a 34-point effort from Antetokounmpo, ending their season. The award was the first of Antetokounmpo’s career and the first for a Buck since Michael Redd won the award in January 2004.

In finance, the theoretical “risk-free interest rate” is often approximated by practitioners by using the current yield of a Treasury of the same duration. Furthermore, Treasuries are issued in a wide variety of maturities, from one day to thirty years, which facilitates comparing the interest rates on other debt to a security of comparable maturity. Governments issue debt to pay for ongoing expenses as well as major capital projects.
On December 17, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks won the NBA Cup with a 97–81 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, with Antetokounmpo receiving the Tournament MVP award and being selected to the All-Tournament team. On April 9, Antetokounmpo suffered a calf injury, and missed the remainder of the regular season, as well as the entirety of the 2024 NBA playoffs. He became the first player since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 to tally 60-plus points without a made three-point basket. On November 9, Antetokounmpo scored 54 points and put up 12 rebounds in a 126–124 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
The federal government held $223 billion in corporate equity at the beginning of 2009; this had fallen to $67.4 billion at the end of that year. In 2016, state and local governments owed $3 trillion and have another $5 trillion in unfunded liabilities. In 1946, US households and non-profits owed $35 billion of debt or 15.8% of GDP. This coincided with Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker’s strategy of combating stagflation by raising the federal funds rate; as a result the prime rate peaked at 21.5%, making financing through credit markets prohibitively expensive.
Milwaukee Bucks (2013–present)
Following their son and brother, the entire Antetokounmpo family, except for Francis and Thanasis, moved from Athens to Milwaukee in early 2014. Antetokounmpo’s father, Charles, was a Nigerian football player, while his mother, Veronica, is a former high jumper. Antetokounmpo is also recognized as an elite defensive player, capable of guarding all five positions but more often deployed in a “free safety” role that allows him to roam the paint and discourage attacks on the rim. During the 2019–20 season, Antetokounmpo was responsible (through assisting and personally scoring) for 57.8% of the points the Bucks scored while he was on the floor, one of the highest rates in the league. Despite not being the primary ball handler of the Bucks, he has largely orchestrated the team’s offense.
Financial sector
Debt is normally denominated in a particular currency, and so changes in the valuation of that currency can change the effective size of the debt. In this case, the asset-backed trust is a debt issuer of residential mortgage-backed securities. Loans may be sold or acquired in certain circumstances, as when a bank syndicates a loan. In contrast, loans are not securities and do not have CUSIPs (or the equivalent). A change in ratings can strongly affect a company, since its cost of refinancing depends on its creditworthiness.

In 1946, the US financial sector owed $3 billion of debt, or 1.35% of GDP. Interest payments on debt by US households, businesses, governments, and nonprofits totaled $3.29 trillion in 2008. As of the first quarter of 2010, the Federal Reserve estimated that total public and private debt owed by American households, businesses, and government totaled $50 trillion, or roughly $175,000 per American and 3.5 times GDP. The financial sector has hovered around zero net worth since 1960, reflecting its leverage, while the federal government has fluctuated from a net worth of -7% of GDP in 1946, a high of 6% of GDP in 1974, to -32% of GDP in 2008. Since 1960, US households have consistently held this position, followed by nonfinancial business (137% of GDP in 2008) and state and local governments (50% of GDP in 2008).

Unsecured debt comprises financial obligations for which creditors do not have recourse to the assets of the borrower to satisfy their claims. A “front-end ratio” of 28% or below, together with a “back-end ratio” (including required payments on non-housing debt as well) of 36% or below is also required to be eligible for a conforming loan. This ratio helps to assess the speed of changes in government indebtedness and the size of the debt due.
- The English term “debt” was first used in the late 13th century and comes by way of Old French from the Latin verb debere, “to owe; to have from someone else.” The related term “debtor” was first used in English also in the early 13th century.

Some employees face discipline, financial consequences, or firing if they get low ratings, and many complain that some of the factors that consumers put into ratings are beyond their control. As it represents responses to a single survey item, the validity and reliability of any corporation’s NPS ultimately depend on collecting a large number of ratings from individual human users. Similarly, in Deuteronomy chapter 15 and verse 1 states that debts be forgiven after seven years. Religions like Judaism and Christianity for example, demand that debt be forgiven on a regular basis, in order to prevent systemic inequities between groups in society, or anyone becoming a specialist in holding debt and coercing repayment. At the household level, debts can also have detrimental effects — particularly when households make spending decisions assuming income will increase, or remain stable, in years to come.
Debt may be owed by a sovereign state or country, local government, company, or an individual. Economic research, austerity advocates insisted, showed that terrible things happen once debt exceeds 90 percent of G.D.P. But “economic research” showed no such thing; a couple of economists made that assertion, while many others disagreed. Others have argued that the relationship between debt and growth varies significantly between countries, meaning that an average “rule”, such as that suggested by Reinhart and https://xolivi.com/ Rogoff, has little meaning or policy relevance. Randall Wray criticized Reinhart and Rogoff for combining data “across centuries, exchange rate regimes, public and private debt, and debt denominated in foreign currency as well as domestic currency,” in addition to “statistical errors,” and for lacking a “theory of sovereign currency”. HAP go on to note some other missing debt data points New Zealand, which they describe as “selective omissions.” This charge, which permeates through their paper, is one we object to in the strongest terms…. Olli Rehn, EU Commissioner for Economic Affairs, in his address to the International Labour Organization on April 9, 2013, used the Reinhart–Rogoff paper to argue that “public debt in Europe is expected to stabilise only by 2014 and to do so at above 90% of GDP. Serious empirical research has shown that at such high levels, public debt acts as a permanent drag on growth.”
Governments
Bonds and GSE/federal agency-backed issues represent all but 12% of financial sector debt in 2009. Bonds recovered in the 1980s, representing approximately 25% of financial sector debt throughout the 1990s; however, between 2000 and 2009, bonds issued by the financial sector had increased to 37% of financial sector debt, or $5.8 trillion. This remained relatively constant until the late 1970s; bonds fell to 14% of financial sector debt in 1981. In 1946, bonds represented 6% of financial sector debt, but by 1953 this proportion had risen to 24%.

Let’s say Mr. Jones is looking at an investment property with a net operating income of $36,000 and an annual debt service of $30,000. A DSCR of less than 1, say .95, would mean that there is only enough net operating income to cover 95% of annual debt payments. In the commercial real estate industry, the minimum DSCR set by lenders is 1.25, meaning that the property’s net operating income (NOI) is 25% greater than the annual debt service. Paying down the principal of a loan does not change the net equity/liquidation value of an entity; however, it reduces the cash an entity processes (in exchange of decreasing loan liability or increasing equity in an asset). Thus, financing costs (e.g., interests from loans), personal income tax of owners/investors, capital expenditure, and depreciation are not included in operating expenses. NOI is meant to reflect the true income of an entity or an operation without or before financing.

Foreigners hold $1.28 trillion in agency- and government sponsored enterprise-backed securities, and another $2.33 trillion in US corporate bonds. Of the $7.9 trillion Americans owe to foreigners, $3.9 trillion is owed by the federal government. Americans own more foreign equity and foreign direct investment than foreigners own in the United States, but foreigners hold nearly four times as much US debt as Americans hold in foreign debt. Banks currently hold collateral against their derivative exposures amounting to 67% of their net current credit exposure. Derivatives contracts are overwhelmingly held by large financial institutions.
The notional value of derivative contracts held by US financial institutions is $216.5 trillion, or more than 15 times US GDP. Partly this is due to the complexities of quantifying derivatives – the United States Comptroller of the Currency reports derivative contracts in terms of notional value, net current credit exposure, and fair value, among others. According to official government projections, the Medicare is facing a $37 trillion unfunded liability over the next 75 years, and the Social Security is facing a $13 trillion unfunded liability over the same time frame. It also does not include “unfunded liabilities” to entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare either as debt or accounting liabilities. Federal government retirement funds held $1.3 trillion in assets at the end of 2009.
